Guide Me Through With Words

Indoor games
  • 6–12 years

  • at home

One player walks a course of cushions blindfolded while the other steers with nothing but words. It is quiet, slow and surprisingly hard for the one doing the talking.

What you need

  • A scarf as a blindfold
  • 5 cushions and cardboard boxes
  • An open patch of floor

How to play

  1. Lay five cushions and boxes across the floor as soft obstacles, nothing sharp or heavy.
  2. Tie a scarf loosely over the walker's eyes and stay beside them the whole time.
  3. Steer with words only — two small steps forward, turn a little left, stop.
  4. Walk slowly, because this game is about listening rather than speed.
  5. Say stop the moment a hand or foot comes anywhere near the furniture.
  6. Swap places and let your child guide you through the same course.
