Catch Lightning With a Comb
Rubbed on dry hair, a plastic comb picks up paper snippets from a distance and even bends a thin stream of water. Electricity you can meet without a single wire.
What you need
- Plastic comb
- Paper torn into tiny pieces
- Wool sweater or dry hair
- A tap
How to play
- Tear paper into pieces the size of a fingernail and scatter them on the table.
- Rub the comb through dry hair or on a wool sweater for about twenty seconds.
- Hold the comb just above the paper and watch the pieces jump up to it.
- Open the tap to the thinnest stream you can and bring the charged comb close.
- Rub the comb again and count together how long the invisible force lasts.
