Ramp Race Against Friction
A board leaned against a step becomes a test track. Your child sends a coin, an eraser, a sock and a toy car down it and works out what slides and what gets stuck.
What you need
- Flat board or stiff cardboard
- A step or a stack of books
- Small objects: coin, eraser, sock, toy car, pebble
- Towel and foil or a plastic bag
- Chalk or a stick
How to play
- Lean the board against a low step to make a gentle ramp.
- Send the objects down one at a time from the very top.
- Mark where each one stops with chalk or a stick.
- Cover the ramp with a towel and race the same objects again.
- Swap the towel for foil and compare all three tracks.
- Raise the ramp higher and ask your child to predict the new order.
