Fill a few small bottles with tinted water and fresh snow becomes a canvas that soaks up every line. Mixing two colours on the snow works far better than mixing them in a jar.

What you need

  • Small plastic bottles with narrow caps
  • Water
  • Food colouring, or strong tea and beetroot juice
  • Fresh untouched snow

How to play

  1. Fill three bottles with cold water and tint each one a different colour.
  2. Screw the caps on and shake the bottles until the colour is even.
  3. Find a patch of untouched snow and squeeze out the first line.
  4. Draw a big shape and let your child fill it in with a second colour.
  5. Squeeze two colours over each other and watch what appears where they meet.
  6. Rinse the bottles at home so they are ready for the next snowy day.
