Balloon Rocket on a String
A balloon taped to a straw shoots across the whole room the moment your child lets go of its neck. The air rushing backwards is what pushes the rocket forwards, and you can watch it happen ten times in a row.
What you need
- Balloon
- Drinking straw
- Long piece of string
- Sticky tape
- Paper clips
How to play
- Tie one end of the string to a door handle and thread the free end through the straw.
- Pull the string tight across the room and hold it so it does not sag.
- Blow up the balloon and pinch its neck shut without tying it.
- Tape the balloon to the straw with its neck pointing at your hand.
- Let go and watch the rocket race along the string.
- Hang a paper clip on the straw as cargo and find out how much weight the rocket can still carry.
