Cut out hearts, let the adult bake them, then cover every one with white icing patterns. A slow winter afternoon that smells of cinnamon.

What you need

  • Chilled gingerbread dough
  • Heart-shaped cutter
  • Icing sugar
  • A few drops of water
  • Raisins
  • Small bowls
  • Baking tray

How to play

  1. Roll the chilled dough out on a floured table and let your child stamp out hearts with the cutter.
  2. Lift the hearts onto the tray and bake them yourself — 180 °C for about eight minutes.
  3. While the hearts cool, stir icing sugar with a few drops of water into a thick white paste.
  4. Spoon the icing into a small bag and snip a tiny corner off it yourself with scissors.
  5. Let your child draw dots, waves and stripes on the cooled hearts and press raisins into the icing.
  6. Leave the hearts to dry for an hour before hanging them on a string or eating them.
