Draw What the Music Sounds Like

Put on a song and let the crayon move the way the music moves — slow loops for quiet parts, sharp jabs for loud ones. There is nothing to get right, so even a three-year-old is instantly good at it.

What you need

  • A big sheet of paper
  • Wax crayons or coloured pencils
  • Any music you have

How to play

  1. Spread a big sheet of paper on the floor and put out a few colours.
  2. Play something slow and quiet and let the crayon wander in lazy loops.
  3. Switch to something fast and loud so the marks turn sharp and jumpy.
  4. Stop the music and ask which part of the paper looks loud.
  5. Play one last song and fill up the empty corners.
