Two sealed jars with a piece of bread, one damp and one dry, become a week-long experiment about what mould needs. The jars stay shut the whole time.

What you need

  • Two clean jars with lids
  • Two pieces of bread
  • A few drops of water
  • Sticky tape
  • Notebook and pencil

How to play

  1. Put one piece of bread into each jar.
  2. Drop a little water on one piece and leave the other dry.
  3. Screw the lids on tightly and tape them shut so nobody opens them.
  4. Stand one jar in a dark cupboard and the other on a bright shelf.
  5. Draw what is happening in each jar every day for a week.
  6. Throw both jars away yourself after the week, without opening them.
