An arrow drawn on paper turns around all by itself the moment you look at it through a glass of water. Sliding the paper closer flips it back, and somewhere in between it disappears.

What you need

  • Clear glass
  • Water
  • Paper
  • Thick pen or marker

How to play

  1. Draw a fat arrow pointing to the right on a piece of paper.
  2. Stand the paper up behind an empty glass and check that the arrow still points right.
  3. Fill the glass with water and look through it at the arrow again.
  4. Watch the arrow turn around and point the other way.
  5. Slide the paper slowly towards the glass until the arrow flips back.
  6. Draw a fish underneath and find the spot where it starts swimming the other way.
