Blow Up a Stack of Books
A flat plastic bag under four heavy books looks hopeless until your child breathes into a straw and lifts the whole tower. Air turns out to be strong enough to do the work of a jack.
What you need
- Plastic zip bag
- Drinking straw
- Sticky tape
- Four or five heavy books
How to play
- Lay the zip bag flat on the table with its opening at the edge.
- Stack four heavy books on top of the bag.
- Push the straw into the bag and close the zip tightly around it, taping the gap.
- Ask your child to guess whether one breath can lift all those books.
- Blow steadily through the straw and watch the whole stack rise.
- Add one more book at a time until the air finally gives up.
