Pepper That Runs From Soap
A plate of water sprinkled with pepper turns into a tiny race track: one soapy finger and every speck dashes to the edge. Your child watches the skin of the water tear in a second.
What you need
- Flat plate or shallow bowl
- Water
- Ground black pepper
- Dish soap
How to play
- Pour water into the plate so it just covers the bottom.
- Sprinkle pepper over the whole surface until it looks like a starry sky.
- Ask your child to dip a clean finger in the middle and see that nothing happens.
- Put one drop of dish soap on that finger and dip it in the same spot again.
- Watch the pepper race to the edge and talk about why the water pulls away.
