A message painted in soda water dries away to nothing and comes back in purple the moment the sheet is brushed with grape juice. A fine way to pass secret notes across the table.

What you need

  • Baking soda
  • Water
  • Cotton bud or thin brush
  • White paper
  • Dark grape juice
  • Wide brush

How to play

  1. Stir a spoonful of baking soda into two spoonfuls of water until it turns cloudy.
  2. Write a word or draw a picture on white paper with the cotton bud.
  3. Let the paper dry completely, until nothing can be seen on it.
  4. Brush grape juice across the whole sheet with the wide brush.
  5. Watch the hidden message appear and write an answer for the next round.
