Sink or Float Treasure Hunt
Your child gathers ten small treasures from around the room and guesses the fate of each one before it hits the water. The two sorted piles slowly reveal what all the floaters have in common.
What you need
- Big bowl or washing-up bowl
- Warm water
- A towel
- Ten small unbreakable things from the room
How to play
- Fill the bowl with warm water and spread a towel underneath it.
- Send your child around the room to collect ten small things that will not be ruined by water.
- Hold up each thing and ask together whether it will sink or float.
- Put it in one of two guess piles on the table before testing.
- Drop the things in one by one and move each one to the pile it really belongs in.
- Count which pile is bigger and look for what the floaters have in common.
