Drive a Paperclip Through a Maze
A paperclip on a sheet of paper obediently follows a magnet hidden underneath. Your child draws a maze first and then steers the clip along it without ever touching it.
What you need
- Sheet of paper
- Pencil or felt-tip pen
- Metal paperclip
- Fridge magnet
- Two books or a cardboard box
How to play
- Draw a winding maze on the sheet with a start and a finish.
- Lay the paper across two books so there is a gap underneath.
- Put the paperclip on the start and hold the magnet under the paper.
- Move the magnet slowly and steer the clip through every turn.
- Try the same trick through a plate, a book and a jumper, and find what the pull cannot cross.
