A cardboard disc painted in six bright colours turns pale grey the moment it spins fast enough. Your child mixes colours without touching a single drop of paint.

What you need

  • Cardboard from a box
  • Felt pens or coloured pencils
  • Two short pencils
  • Scissors for the adult
  • A jar lid to draw around

How to play

  1. Ask an adult to cut two cardboard circles using a jar lid as a guide.
  2. Divide the first circle into six slices with pencil lines.
  3. Colour the slices red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.
  4. Push a short pencil through the middle so it sticks out below like a leg.
  5. Spin the top hard and watch the colours drain away into pale grey.
  6. Colour the second circle in only two colours and find out what those two mix into.
