Which Cloth Drinks the Most
Four materials get exactly the same three spoons of water, and only some of them drink it. Squeezing each one back out over a cup turns a guess into a real measurement.
What you need
- Baking tray
- Kitchen sponge
- Paper towel
- An old sock
- Square of aluminium foil
- Four cups
- Spoon and water
How to play
- Lay the sponge, the paper towel, the sock and the foil in a row on the tray.
- Pour exactly three spoonfuls of water onto each one.
- Watch which puddles stay sitting on top and which ones disappear inside.
- Lift each piece and wring it out over its own cup.
- Line the cups up and see which material was drinking the most.
- Ask your child which of them would make the best towel and why.
