Sprout Beans in a Jar
Dry beans pressed against the glass by damp paper open up over a week: first a root, then a stem, all of it in plain view. Your child measures the sprout every morning.
What you need
- Clean glass jar
- Paper towel or cotton wool
- Dry beans or peas
- Water
- Ruler or a strip of paper
How to play
- Line the inside of the jar with damp paper towel.
- Slide three beans between the glass and the paper so they stay visible.
- Pour a little water into the bottom so the paper never dries out.
- Stand the jar on a warm windowsill and keep the paper damp every day.
- Measure the root and the stem each morning and mark them on the paper strip.
