Giant and Tiny Shadows
The same little toy throws a shadow the size of a mouse or the size of a bear, and your child controls which by walking a torch back and forth. Hand spans on the wall turn the game into measuring.
What you need
- Torch or phone light
- A small toy
- A bare wall
- A dark room
How to play
- Wait until dusk, close the curtains and switch off the lamps.
- Stand a small toy on the table in front of a bare wall.
- Shine the torch at the toy from the far side of the room and look at the shadow.
- Carry the torch slowly closer and watch the shadow grow into a giant.
- Measure the biggest and the smallest shadow with your hand spans.
- Ask your child where to hold the torch to make the shadow exactly as tall as the toy.
