Blow into soapy paint until the foam climbs over the rim of the mug, then lay paper on top: every burst bubble leaves a thin ring. Poke a hole near the top of the straw first so nothing can be sucked up.

What you need

  • A mug
  • Washing-up liquid
  • Paints or ink you already have
  • A drinking straw
  • Paper
  • A tray

How to play

  1. Mix a spoon of paint, a squirt of washing-up liquid and a little water in a mug.
  2. Poke a small hole near the top of the straw so nothing can be sucked back up.
  3. Stand the mug on a tray and blow through the straw until coloured foam rises over the rim.
  4. Lay a sheet of paper on the foam and lift it straight up again.
  5. Repeat with a second colour on the same sheet so the rings overlap.
  6. Leave the prints to dry and rinse the mug before anyone reaches for it.
