A figure cut from a cereal box, tied together with thread and hung from a stick — the arms and legs really move. Teaching it to walk is the hard part, and that is the whole fun.

What you need

  • An empty cereal box or thick card
  • Safe scissors
  • String or thread
  • A pencil
  • Tape
  • A stick or a wooden spoon

How to play

  1. Draw a body, two arms and two legs on the flat cardboard.
  2. Cut out the six parts and poke a small hole in the end of each one with the pencil.
  3. Tie the parts together with short pieces of string, loosely enough to swing.
  4. Tie one long string to each hand and one to the head.
  5. Tape the long strings to the stick, well apart from each other.
  6. Lift the stick and practise walking, waving and bowing.
