Flour, salt and a spoon of oil make dough in five minutes, and the kitchen colours it: cocoa for brown, turmeric for yellow. Making it is half the activity, squashing it is the other half.

What you need

  • 2 cups of flour
  • Half a cup of salt
  • A spoon of oil
  • Warm water
  • Cocoa and turmeric
  • A bowl
  • A jar with a lid

How to play

  1. Mix two cups of flour, half a cup of salt and a spoon of oil in a bowl.
  2. Add warm water a little at a time and knead until the dough is soft and no longer sticky.
  3. Split the dough into two lumps.
  4. Knead a spoon of cocoa into one lump and a pinch of turmeric into the other.
  5. Let your child roll, squash and stack the two colours into snails, snakes and stripes.
  6. Put the dough in a jar with a lid so it is ready for next week.
