Watch Juice Turn Into Jelly
Gelatine swells, warm juice sets, and berries hang in mid-air inside the glass. A slow change your child can check on every twenty minutes.
What you need
- Berry juice or compote
- Gelatine powder
- Cold water
- Sugar
- A few fresh or frozen berries
- Clear glasses
- Teaspoons
How to play
- Sprinkle the gelatine over a few spoons of cold water and let your child watch it swell for ten minutes.
- Warm the juice in a pan yourself until it steams — it must never come to the boil.
- Stir the swollen gelatine into the warm juice yourself until nothing grainy is left.
- Let your child drop a few berries into each glass so they sit at different heights.
- Pour the warm juice into the glasses yourself and put them in the fridge.
- Check every twenty minutes and tilt a glass gently to see when the liquid stops moving.
- Eat the jelly with a teaspoon and talk about where the liquid went.
