One person draws a meaningless squiggle, the other has to turn it into something real. It needs nothing but a notebook and a pencil, so it works in a car, on a train or in a long queue.

What you need

  • A notebook or any paper
  • A pencil or a pen

How to play

  1. Draw a quick, meaningless squiggle and pass the notebook over.
  2. Ask your child to add lines until the squiggle becomes an animal, a machine or a face.
  3. Let them give the drawing a name and a short story.
  4. Swap roles, so the next squiggle is yours to finish.
  5. Save the hardest squiggles for the way back.
